The Netherlands Embassy
Lost or stolen
What to do when your passport or identity card has been lost or stolen
When your passport has been lost or stolen you should report this to the police as soon as possible. You then have to make an appointment with the passport section of the Embassy or a Netherlands consulate to apply for a new passport or identity card. In addition to the documents required for a regular passport or identity card application, you will be asked to provide a written explanation about how the passport or identity card was lost or stolen and the police report.
If you have to travel urgently and do not have a valid passport or identity card due to loss or theft, you can apply for an emergency travel document. Please note that these will be issued in case of emergency only and that documentary evidence of the emergency may be required. A fee will be payable.
You will have to submit the following documents:
If the passport or identity card that was lost or stolen was not issued by the Embassy in London, the applicant's details will first have to be checked with the authority in the Netherlands or elsewhere that issued the passport or identity card, before an emergency document can be issued.
Please note that when applying for a new passport or identity card, in addition to the police report and your written statement, you will have to submit all documents normally required for a passport or identity card application.
